Joint Doctorate Programs (Cotutelle de thèse)
The University of Bern no longer supports individual joint doctorates. If such involve strategically important, longer-term international cooperation within which at least five joint doctorates are awarded, the University of Bern will support the drafting of a framework agreement.
If that is the case, the doctoral candidates will receive two diplomas, each with a note stating that it is a joint doctorate; they are supervised by a professor at each university and they conduct their research work in equal amount at both universities.
Supervising professors at the University of Bern may submit applications for drafting a framework agreement, including a detailed explanation of the strategic importance of the cooperation project for the university, and the scope of the project.
