«Open Round» to Support Postdocs
As part of the project-related contributions from Swissuniversities, the Academic Careers Office launched an «Open Round» to fund projects from the intermediate staff and the faculties that aim to support early career researchers from the postdoc level upwards.
As of February 16, 2026, 45 project applications with a total budget of CHF 630,960.30 were received for the «Open Round» to Support Postdocs.
The University of Bern’s Academic Careers Working Group reviewed the applications based on the criteria specified in the call for applications. The evaluations were then approved by the Vice-Rector International and Academic Careers and brought to the attention of the Executive Board of the University of Bern.
With a sum of CHF 309,890.50, a total of 25 applications can be supported.

Purpose |
The «Open Round» helps fund activities, initiatives and measures that provide postdoctoral researchers with innovative support, help them broaden their network, expand their skills, improve their career prospects, or strengthen their position in other ways. |

Eligibility |
Eligibility to apply extends to all postdoctoral researchers at the University of Bern as well as all other employees of the University of Bern and all persons affiliated with the University of Bern at postdoctoral level. |
Funding amount |
Applications for funding within the range of CHF 5,000 to CHF 20,000 will generally be considered. Higher amounts may be applied for, if compelling justification is provided. |
Deadline |
The deadline for submissions has passed. There will be no further application rounds. |
Final Report
The final report on the implementation of the funded project and the final financial statement must be submitted to the Vice-Rectorate International and Academic Careers (postdoctorate@unibe.ch) by February 19, 2027. Any remaining funds must also be returned by February 19, 2027.
