In addition to graduate schools, doctoral candidates at the University of Bern have the option of completing a research-integrated doctoral program as part of a

• doctoral program of the University of Bern
• doctoral degree program of CUSO (Association of Universities in Western Switzerland) with participation of the University of Bern

Doctoral programs are usually organized with involvement of different universities. Compared to graduate schools, doctoral programs are more discipline-specific and less formalized.
